A master sculptor and a master of a combined technique. Kurt Gebauer was born in Hradec nad Moravicí in 1941 and studied at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague while Eduard Ovčáček was born in Třinec in 1933 and studied the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Since the 1960s, they have been key figures of fine arts in Czechoslovakia. Kurt Gebauer is inspired by new figuration while Eduard Ovčáček draws motifs from visual poetry. They are active as curators, graphical artists, painters, sculptors, photographers, typographers and university professors — Gebauer teaches at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and Ovčáček at the University of Ostrava. Eduard Ovčáček is the author of a short story collection Slova znovu slova (Words and Words Again, 2016).
